A special screening of the documentary A Powerful Noise will take place on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 6pm in The Student Life Center located at 942 Learning Way. This emotional documentary chronicles the journeys of three women each overcoming gender barriers to rise up and claim a voice in their societies.

Hanh is an HIV-positive widow in Vietnam. Nada, a survivor of the Bosnian war. And Jacqueline works the slums of Bamako, Mali. Three very different lives. Three vastly different worlds. But they share something in common: Power. Through their empowerment and ability to empower others, Hanh, Nada and Jacqueline are sparking remarkable changes.

A Powerful Noise was directed by Tom Cappello with production manager Allison Troxell, (both Film School alumni) in a partnership with the NGOs CARE and ONE. The filmmakers will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A along with Terry Coonan of The FSU Center for the Advancement of Human Rights.

This screening is free and open to the public. Please contact Sabrina Reisinger de Angulo at 850.644.0453 for more information
